Glamming Up Shiny Toy Guns

Makeup Artist Jenn Quin and Hair Stylist Kahlil Oliver recently glammed up L.A. band Shiny Toy Guns for their red carpet event and performance in New York. They provided a more subdued look for the red carpet event, then quickly turned it around for an edgier rock and roll look for their performance. "It was a very memorable experience," said Kahlil, "From the time we walked in the dressing room, they welcome us with open arms. Their style is very edgy and their performance is out of control! Love the group!"

Recently, Michele Shakeshaft of STILISTA had the pleasure of shooting with one of Virginia's top Fashion Photographers and Photo Editor of Supermodels Unlimited Magazine, Rodney Young. The two teamed up with model, Simone, to produce beauty shots ranging from clean and natural to steamy and sexy. "Rodney's a great photographer and the shoots are always fun and exciting," said Michele. "We always have a great time on set." Rodney said, "Michele is great to work with. She is all about the details."

Tips from the Artist -Hiding Dark Circles

Often concealers don't cover or the area looks gray.

There are two methods to hiding dark circles or any other discolorations. But, before you start, make sure that the area has been moisturized to help prevent caking.

The first method is to use basic color theory to neutralize the colors. First, you'll need to examine the color of the discoloration and select a color that is opposite from it on the color wheel. Then use a product that has the neutralizing color as a base. Only a little bit of the product is needed to see the effects. You should neutralize the discoloration before applying foundation and only apply the neutralizing product to the area that needs correction, followed by the foundation. Apply the foundation in a patting motion where color corrector was used so that the product doesn't bleed into other areas that didn't need correction.

The second method is to apply foundation first then, apply concealer in a shade or two lighter than your foundation to the areas where extra coverage is needed.

When selecting a product for neutralizing or concealing, the color used will need to be as saturated in as the discoloration. You can't use a poorly pigmented product on an intense discoloration, it will not cover nor will it neutralize and this may give a gray/ashen appearance. Products such as Keormask, Dermablend, Cover Fx, Eve Pearl, Ben Nye, Mehron and Kryolan are all good choices.

The next step is to set the area with powder. First make sure that the products haven't creased. If you find that it has crease, you may remove the creases by using a tapping motion. Then with a small powder brush (an eye shadow brush works nicely), place and press powder over the area and whisk away any excess powder.

Following either of these methods should have our eyes looking brighter.
